Deep-cycle, lead-acid batteries are also found in hybrid cars, where they serve as energy storage for the electric motor. Different from the gasoline in a fuel tank, which can only power the gasoline engine, the electric motor on a hybrid car can both put energy into the batteries and draw it out. The electric motor can turn the transmission, and the transmission turns the wheels so that the car runs cleanly and efficiently. Additionally, the internal construction of the deep-cycle, lead-acid battery allows it to be fully discharged and recharged over and over again, further compounding the environmentally friendly nature of these vehicles.
